Online Blackjack Rules

Blackjack is one of the world’s favourite card games and the rules of the game are also simple. They are easy to follow and the chances of winning are good. But there are finer aspects to the game that make Blackjack an art form and also a very interesting sport.

Blackjack, also known as Pontoon or 21, is played with the object of collecting cards with scores that are close to 21 but not above it.

Each player receives two cards from the dealer, including herself. Players can “Hit”, “Stand”, or “Surrender”. Hit means to take a card while bust means to go over 21. The cards are valued at different points depending on the type.

The face cards aka Jack, Queen and King are valued at 10 points each. The aces are worth 1 or 11 depending on the game and the rest of the cards are represented or valued by the numbers they have on their face.

A standard Blackjack table in a casino is designed for seven players and the dealer. Depending on the type of game to be played, six or eight decks of cards are generally shuffled and placed in the “Shoe” output bin. The shoe has about six decks of cards. A popular rule is to swipe your hand, palm down, once or twice against yourself to strike. The dealer understands this and gives you a card.

Playing Blackjack

To win, the player must hit the dealer without leaving. The “bust” occurs when the cards amount to more than 21. In such a situation, the player automatically loses.

The value 21 is achieved in the game by adding the values of the cards and the player closest to 21 wins. And if the dealer exceeds 21, all remaining players are paid off. If the dealer’s card counts less than or equal to 16, she can take one card. And if her card count is more than or equal to 17, she cannot take a card.

It is necessary for players to bet before they can receive the cards. The players receive two cards each, face up and the dealer has one card face up and the other face down. In some casinos, players can get one card face up and the other face down. This again depends on the strategy and the rules that the casino follows.
